Also when I click "uninstall" it takes me to a window to select programs to uninstall rather than uninstall the app's. Not all apps offer the "uninstall" option. Is there not just a way to wipe out the apps altogether from windows so that the app start screen is no longer on the computer?
I have found a program to give me the start button like XP has and have managed to get the computer to boot to the desktop like it's suppose to. I just want all that extra app stuff off the computer.

Sorry , In general there is no official and supported way to disable or wipe out all the apps altogether and switch back to old start screen. For this reason all of methods and suggestion to do that are unofficial .

By Default several Apps come preinstalled with Windows. If you create a new Windows user then that new user will only have installed the Default Apps.
You can try this option if you like, it might do what you want, I don't know as I have never tried it?

I am trying to delete anything in the windows folder that has "app" in its name. For some reason I do not have permission to delete some files on my own computer.
Give me XP and rescue me from 8.1!

I have tried the procedures to change permissions and it ends with the "access denied" error. It gives me several error messages along the way every time I try to change my privileges on any file and will not allow me to change it.
Is there just a way to get rid of 8.1 and get a operating system like XP that is user friendly and works? I have decided to stop the automatic updates and am uninstalling the 64 it has done in the few weeks I have had this lap-top.
I hate Windows 8.1. There must be a betteralternative.
I got the command prompt up and went into the windows folder and deleted the security folder. Maybe that will help.
